The US will hold crucial midterm elections on Nov. 3, with Republicans facing a precarious situation and potentially losing control of Congress. On Oct. 22 local time, US President Donald Trump invited a group of Catholic bishops to the White House for a prayer session with him in the Oval Office, praying for himself and the country.
Video shows Trump sitting at his desk with his eyes closed while several bishops stand around him, some placing their hands on him in a gesture of prayer or blessing. Paula White, Trump's long-time spiritual adviser and senior adviser to the White House Faith Office, was also standing nearby.
On March 5 this year, Trump also invited a group of pastors to pray for him in the Oval Office, praying for US soldiers participating in military operations against Iran.
This is not the first time Trump has held a group prayer at the White House. Shortly after taking office again as US president in March 2025, Trump invited evangelical clergy to pray in the Oval Office.
During the critical election period in late 2020, with the race going badly, Trump's religious adviser Paula White hosted a passionate prayer session to boost his campaign. She declared that on election day they would once again defeat all those allied with the devil in the name of Jesus. In the end, Biden won that election.
