Hong Kong's MTR will roll out a half-price fare promotion this Saturday under its "Thank You Day" campaign, which the operator describes as a gesture of appreciation to passengers for their continued support.
Under the offer, passengers using an Octopus card will receive a 50% discount on every fare-paying trip across the MTR heavy rail network, Light Rail and MTR Bus services. For heavy rail journeys, passengers can also scan a QR code to obtain the discount, according to details of the promotion.
For Octopus users, the savings may be larger because the 50% discount can be combined with existing fare benefits, including interchange discounts, Fare Saver discounts, and a 25% discount on connecting journeys covered by the Monthly Pass.
However, the promotion comes with limitations. For Octopus card holders, the discount does not apply to First Class Premium on the East Rail Line, the Airport Express, or MTR Feeder Bus services.
Passengers using the QR-code option face tighter rules: the discount does not apply to First Class Premium on the East Rail Line or the Airport Express, and it cannot be used together with any other fare promotion.
The operator also noted that travelers paying with e-Single Journey Tickets or contactless bank cards are not eligible for the "Thank You Day" discount.
