Living and working in a foreign land, overseas Chinese understand better than anyone else what it means to have "roots." Following the release of the documentary series Ningboese Lineage in HK, the legendary journey of Ningbo entrepreneurs, expanding from their hometown to Hong Kong and onto the global stage, has sparked a deep resonance among overseas Chinese communities, particularly among foreign-based Chinese-language media professionals.
Wang Hao, Editor-in-Chief of New Zealand's Solace Media Limited, noted that while highlighting the storied history of Ningbo merchants, the documentary also reflects a shared emotional anchor for Chinese people worldwide: no matter how far or high they venture, their hearts remain tied to their homeland. She added that their story is more than a commercial saga—it is a vivid record of resilience and ambition, expressing strong optimism for future ties between Ningbo, Hong Kong, and the broader global community.
Liu Lirong, President of Malaysia's Global Review, shared that the documentary's true power lies in its personal narratives, which capture how generations of Ningbo entrepreneurs passed down both their business acumen and patriotism. "They expanded their businesses abroad, kept their love for home alive, and passed on an enduring spirit," Liu said. "That is a sentiment shared by Chinese everywhere."
Gao Jin, President of the UK-based Overseas Chinese Newspaper of Europe, highlighted that Ningbo entrepreneurs in Europe and the UK form a tight-knit, pragmatic, and hardworking community that has contributed significantly to China-Europe trade.
