The Hong Kong Observatory issued a Very Hot Weather Warning at 6:45 am on Wednesday (Oct. 21), breaking the record for the latest date of the year on which the warning has been issued. The previous record was Oct. 19, 2024.

The Observatory forecast scorching conditions across the city on Wednesday and urged the public to guard against heatstroke.

On Wednesday, HK will be mainly fine, with reduced visibility in the morning, the Observatory said. The minimum temperature will be around 26°C, while the maximum temperature in urban areas is expected to reach about 33°C, with temperatures in the New Territories two to three degrees higher.

Some areas may experience extreme heat. Conditions will be dry during the day, with light winds initially, before moderate northeasterly winds set in later. There may also be isolated showers.

Looking ahead, the Observatory said the weather would remain mainly fine and hot during the day for the rest of the week and into the weekend, with dry conditions persisting.
