Chinese diving star Quan Hongchan, 19, made a public appearance in Shanghai at a skincare brand event, drawing online attention after she stepped on stage in an all-white outfit and performed a short hand-gesture dance.
Quan — a standout member of China's national diving team — has won three Olympic gold medals across the Tokyo and Paris Games, and her public appearances continue to attract widespread interest. Footage from the Shanghai event circulated quickly on social media, with many viewers commenting on her more mature, confident stage presence and saying she has noticeably "changed as she's grown up."
According to the report, Quan appeared at the event on Oct 18, wearing a white long-sleeved set with her hair styled in braided pigtails. As she walked to center stage after the host introduced her, the crowd cheered loudly, and some attendees called out words of support.
The report noted that Quan has recently looked more poised in public compared with her earlier, more reserved image. She also updated her social media account after a roughly two-month break, posting a brief hand-gesture dance clip that prompted a wave of positive comments.
The diver is currently in a period of recovery and adjustment following her performances at the 15th National Games, where she won gold in the women's team and synchronized events. The report cited Xinhua as saying that Quan has been dealing with a long-standing ankle issue since May 2025, leading her to miss several major competitions. Her provincial coaching team has said her priority at this stage is full rehabilitation and balancing studies as she prepares for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic cycle.
