Hong Kong pop star G.E.M. Tang, whose real name is Tang Tsz-kei, has reportedly tied the knot with her boyfriend of eight years, stylist Mark Ngai, in a low-key ceremony at a church in New York, just one day after wrapping up her three-year "I AM GLORIA" world tour in Shenzhen.
Tang, 35, completed the final show of the tour in Shenzhen on Oct. 5, and reports of her marriage emerged the following day. Multiple media outlets reported that Tang and Ngai, who is from a wealthy family, had quietly married at a church in New York. The news reportedly came from people in Ngai's circle of friends and relatives, lending further weight to the rumors.
Management gives cryptic response
When contacted for comment, Tang's management company gave an ambiguous response, saying only, "It is the artist's private life, so we have no comment," neither confirming nor denying the reports.
The response stands in sharp contrast to the company's previous handling of similar rumors. When reports emerged in 2020 that the couple had married on a Thai island, Tang's manager quickly denied the claims, joking that "the rumor is simply too funny."
In 2022, another report claimed that the couple had obtained a marriage certificate. Tang's studio responded humorously on social media, asking, "What? Has she got her marriage certificate? How come none of us knew?"
This time, however, the company has chosen to treat the matter as private, fueling speculation that the marriage reports may be genuine.
Couple reportedly held low-key church wedding in New York
According to reports, Tang and Ngai flew to New York before the final show of her tour in Shenzhen and held a private wedding ceremony at a church there.
A devout Christian, Tang has repeatedly said in past interviews that she hopes to have children, while adhering to her religious belief that she should "get married before having children." If the reports of the secret wedding are true, the marriage would be in line with the plans she has spoken about in the past.
A look back at their eight-year romance
Tang and Ngai were first rumored to be dating in 2016. In 2017, they were photographed holding hands in Tokyo's Shibuya district, and the couple officially went public with their relationship in 2018.
They have since remained together for eight years. Ngai is not only Tang's longtime stylist but has also been a key partner who has accompanied her through the ups and downs of her career over the years.
Ngai also comes from a prominent family. His maternal grandfather was a descendant of a Shanghai textile family and was the former husband of actress Rosamund Kwan. His younger sister previously competed in the Miss Hong Kong pageant and is now a TVB artiste.
