The 20th Asian Games will wrap up on Oct 4 after a 16-day run, with the closing ceremony scheduled for 5:00 pm (Hong Kong time) at Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium in Nagoya.
China's delegation is set to finish top of both the gold-medal table and the overall medal standings, the report said. The organizers are also expected to announce the event's men's and women's Most Valuable Athlete (MVP) awards on the final day, with the winners drawing wide attention.
Since the 1998 Bangkok Asian Games, each edition has presented an MVP award, and that the Hangzhou Asian Games introduced separate male and female MVP honors. The previous winners were Chinese swimmers Qin Haiyang and Zhang Yufei.
The Olympic Council of Asia said a five-member jury will make the selections by weighing factors such as the number of gold medals won and whether athletes set world records, Asian records or Asian Games records. Each MVP will receive a US$25,000 cash prize.
Competition will continue into the final day, with equestrian events set to award the Games' last two gold medals. Looking ahead, the next Asian Games will be hosted in Doha, Qatar, and the organizing committee is still discussing possible dates with the Olympic Council of Asia, Asian sports federations and an athletes' commission, with late 2030 or 2031 mentioned as potential options.
