China Eastern Airlines has filed a police report and suspended services for a passenger following a cabin dispute that drew widespread attention online after footage appeared to show a flight attendant kneeling to apologize.
The incident dates back to Sept 28 on flight MU6741. A video circulated on social media with claims that a flight attendant accidentally struck a male passenger's elbow while pushing a service trolley. The passenger was described as having only a minor impact, but he allegedly became emotionally agitated, demanded repeated apologies, and even asked that the crew member allow him to "kick her once."
In an earlier response issued on Sept 30, the airline said medical personnel checked the passenger after landing and found no external injuries. The passenger declined to be accompanied to a hospital by ground staff and later left on his own. The airline added that it had arranged psychological support for the employee involved and was working with relevant parties to review and preserve evidence.
On Oct 3, China Eastern released a further statement saying it had largely completed evidence preservation, fact-checking, and a legal assessment. The airline said it believed the passenger's conduct was suspected of disrupting order on a civil aircraft and of seriously infringing on the personal dignity and lawful working rights of its staff.
The airline said it has formally reported the matter to public security authorities and is cooperating with investigators. It also announced it would temporarily suspend providing carriage services to the passenger identified by the surname Ou. The company said it would continue offering care and support, including counseling and legal assistance, to the crew member involved, and it thanked passengers who helped uphold order and provided truthful information.
Under standard onboard procedures, cabin crew operate service carts in narrow aisles, and airlines typically urge passengers to remain calm and follow crew instructions when disputes arise.
