Today marks the 77th National Day of the People's Republic of China. The HKSAR Government held flag-raising ceremonies and a National Day reception this morning at Tamar Golden Bauhinia Square and the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Chief Executive John Lee said in a social media post that today is the first National Day since the release of Hong Kong's first five-year plan, making it particularly significant.
Mr. Lee noted that the Plan is a strategic blueprint built on the unique strengths of "One Country, Two Systems." He said opportunities do not wait indefinitely, and Hong Kong must act decisively to integrate into and serve the country's overall development.
He emphasized that the Plan is both logical and focused, based on a review of Hong Kong's strengths, shortcomings, opportunities, and risks. Hong Kong is the world's only city that brings together both national and international opportunities. The Plan aims to unlock synergy, cement Hong Kong's position as a hub for dual circulation, and play the roles of "super connector" and "super value-creator."
Mr. Lee added that the HKSAR Government will plan for the long term, take reform as a fresh starting point, and carry out first-year initiatives to implement the five-year blueprint. He expressed confidence that Hong Kong will achieve a bright future if everyone works together, and wished the motherland prosperity and Hong Kong lasting stability.
