Chinese singer Liu Huan, a former mentor on the hit singing competition The Voice of China and revered as the "Godfather of Chinese Pop Music," died in Shanghai at 9:52 am on Sept. 25, surrounded by family. He was 63.
On the evening of Sept. 27, British singer Sarah Brightman posted on multiple social media platforms to mourn the musician.
In her post, Brightman said she was deeply saddened to hear of Liu Huan's death. "I had the pleasure of singing with him at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, performing the opening theme song 'You and Me.' He was an amazing talent and a true gentleman. He will be greatly missed."
The Olympic theme song "You and Me," performed by Liu Huan and Brightman at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, became widely known and widely sung. In a 2022 interview, Brightman said her performance at the 2008 Beijing Olympics opening ceremony was a "highlight" of her life.
