The men's team table tennis final at the Nagoya Asian Games was held today (Sept. 24). The Chinese team, consisting of Wang Chuqin, Wen Ruibo, and Lin Shidong, lost 2-3 to host nation Japan, taking silver and falling short in their bid for a ninth consecutive Asian Games title. This marks the first time in 36 years, since 1990, that China's men's team has missed out on the Asian Games men's team gold.
In the first match, Wang Chuqin came back from 0-2 down to win three straight games, defeating Sora Matsushima 3-2 to give China the opening point. In the second match, Wen Ruibo lost 1-3 to Tomokazu Harimoto. In the third match, Lin Shidong beat Shunsuke Togami 3-1, putting China 2-1 ahead overall. However, Wang Chuqin then lost 0-3 to Harimoto in the fourth match, and Wen Ruibo fell 1-3 to Matsushima in the deciding fifth match, as China dropped the final two ties and suffered a comeback defeat.
Tomokazu Harimoto scored two points on his own, proving to be Japan's biggest contributor to their title win.
