Amid ongoing turbulence in the Middle East, Iran is caught between unilateral sanctions and geopolitical conflict. Farhang Sadeghpour, Economic, Public Diplomacy and Political Officer at the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran (Hong Kong and Macao), told DotDotNews that regional tensions "will not last long," urging resistance against unilateralism and expecting de-escalation in the near future. He said the pressures on Iran were imposed from outside, pointing in particular to US unilateral sanctions and financial leverage.
Despite these challenges, Sadeghpour expressed confidence that China and the Belt and Road Initiative can expand prospects for Iran and the wider Global South. He called the initiative a valuable multilateral platform and stressed that no single country should dominate or monopolise the future.
