"What is the first taste of Henan for visitors arriving in Zhengzhou?" Faced with this question, foreign friend Li Hao immediately answered: "Hand-muddled Jingjie tea."
Jingjie, has been widely used in the Henan region since the Song Dynasty. Fresh Jingjie leaves are hand-muddled together with lemon and ice, releasing an instant burst of fragrance, then mixed with tea — creating a refreshing and unique cup of Jingjie tea. For Li Hao, this is the most authentic taste of Henan.
Li Hao is currently studying Chinese in Zhengzhou. Recently, he visited the Zhengzhou Airport Aviation Viewing Base, located in the Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone. The base, situated at the northern end of the runway of Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport, is the first officially planned aviation viewing platform in central China. It integrates plane spotting, aviation-themed merchandise, and educational leisure activities, and is now open to the public free of charge. The base has two levels, with the upper open-air viewing platform offering an unobstructed view of the northern runway, where visitors can watch planes take off and land up close. Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport handles over 600 daily flight movements on average.
"To understand Henan, you start with one sip of Jingjie tea. Then we watch the planes take off and land, witnessing hainan's modern speed," Li Hao said, standing on the viewing platform as he watched the frequent flights. He remarked that here, he felt both Henan's profound historical heritage and its modern, open spirit.
A cup of Jingjie tea carries a thousand years of herbal fragrance; a plane taking off marks a journey of openness spanning thousands of miles. At the Zhengzhou Airport Aviation Viewing Base, ancient Central Plains culture meets a modern aviation hub — a perfect embodiment of what Li Hao calls "understanding Henan."
