A mudslide triggered by continuous heavy rain brought by Typhoon Saudel struck Shixia Group in Mingkeng Village, Gaoping Town, Suichuan County, Jiangxi, on Sept. 5. By the morning of today (Sept. 6), the Nanchang Fire Rescue Mobile Detachment and fire and rescue teams from Ji'an, Ganzhou and other areas had found one missing person in the collapsed homes in Mingkeng Village who showed no signs of life. As of now, the disaster has killed two people and left 10 missing.
After sustained efforts, the road from Tanghu Town to Mingkeng Village, Gaoping Town, was fully reopened at 1:30 a.m. on Sept 6. Widening works are under way on narrower sections. With roads from Zuo'an Town and Tanghu Town toward the village now open, small vehicles can pass through, and rescue equipment is gradually being moved into the disaster area. At 2:00 a.m., three excavators arrived at the forward command post near the site to begin operations. In addition, teams have deployed powered pontoon bridges, assault boats, and mechanized bridges to establish water-based rescue routes and reach the hardest-hit area as quickly as possible.
By 10:00 p.m. on Sept. 5, a total of 641 rescue personnel had arrived on scene. Roads within the village have been largely restored, communications have been reconnected, and residents' access to water, electricity, food, and housing has been secured. Across Suichuan County, 5,339 residents have been urgently evacuated to safety.
