Hong Kong golfer Isaac Lam claimed the title at the Fanling Classic on Sunday (Aug. 30), finishing 17 under par to secure his second China Tour victory.
Fanling Classic, HK's first professional golf tournament on the China Tour, concluded at the Fanling Old Course after four rounds of competition featuring more than 100 top golfers.
Lam made the most of his home-course advantage, remaining at the top of the leaderboard throughout the four-day tournament to claim the championship.
Fellow HK representative Jason Hak finished joint fifth at 7 under par, while local amateur rising star Jeffrey Shen finished joint seventh at 6 under par to become the tournament's best amateur player.
Kenneth Lam, president of the Golf Association of Hong Kong, China, said the strong performances by HK's young golfers were encouraging, highlighting Lam's victory and Shen's award as the tournament's best amateur player.
He expressed hope that the HK team could carry its recent momentum into the Asian Games and achieve strong results.
Hong Kong Golf Club vice-captain Patrick Kwan said the tournament had provided a new platform for outstanding local players to compete against leading international golfers and earn world ranking points.
He said the club would continue to support the training programmes of the Golf Association of Hong Kong, China, allowing HK golfers to train and gain experience at Fanling and improve their competitiveness on the international stage.
Speaking after his victory, Isaac Lam said he was delighted to win the championship, particularly with his mother in attendance.
He said playing at the familiar Fanling course had given him a clear home-course advantage.
Lam also spoke highly of his friend and role model Taichi Kho, the defending Asian Games golf champion, saying the victory had strengthened his ambition to compete on the Asian Tour and Japan Golf Tour in the future.
"I hope to keep pushing myself to play better, while also inspiring other golfers to improve," Lam said. "I hope HK golfers can push one another forward and that more of us can compete on bigger stages."
