A dispute between two families at the atrium of Kwun Tong's APM mall escalated into a physical altercation on the afternoon of August 26, after two children argued while playing at a "SUMMER PLAYFEST" basketball-themed play area.

A video circulating online shows an elderly woman pushing a young girl and slapping her forcefully, causing the child to fall. The incident then triggered a scuffle involving adults from both families. The girl reportedly suffered swelling and redness on the right side of her face.

According to information cited in local reports, the conflict began when a boy and a five-year-old girl argued over a basketball. It was initially suspected that the girl's 34-year-old mother slapped the boy's 68-year-old grandmother (surname Leung), who then retaliated. During the confrontation, the elderly woman allegedly pushed and slapped the young girl.

Police said officers arrived after receiving a report and, following a preliminary investigation, believed the dispute stemmed from issues related to the play facilities. Three people were involved in the fight. The 68-year-old woman, surnamed Leung, is suspected of assaulting a five-year-old mainland Chinese girl by hand.

Police arrested three women: Leung (68) was arrested on suspicion of affray in a public place and common assault; her 34-year-old daughter (surname Ng) was arrested on suspicion of affray in a public place; and the girl's 34-year-old mother (surname Tsui) was also arrested on suspicion of affray in a public place. All three were detained for investigation.

All the arrested individuals and the child sustained injuries and were sent conscious to United Christian Hospital for treatment.

Police said the three women have each been charged with one count of affray in a public place, while Leung faces an additional charge of common assault. The case is scheduled to be heard at Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts on the morning of September 3.

Separately, online users identified the boy's mother as working in the insurance sector, prompting a wave of comments on the relevant company's social media page, which later disabled its comment function.

In response to enquiries, AIA Hong Kong said it has strict requirements regarding the conduct of its financial planning consultants and does not condone any form of violence. The company added that it has established mechanisms to handle such matters and that the related person has been temporarily suspended, with appropriate follow-up to be conducted.
