British actor Rupert Grint is set to return to the wizarding world of Harry Potter, 15 years after the original film series ended, according to foreign media reports on Aug. 26 local time.
Grint, who played Ron Weasley in the original film series, will reprise the role on Broadway next year in the stage production "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child".
Grint appeared in all eight Harry Potter films, accompanying audiences from 2001 to 2011. His stage run will take place at New York's Lyric Theatre from Feb. 2 to May 30, 2027, for 17 weeks. Set 19 years after the ending of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows", the story follows adult Harry, Ron and Hermione as they have started families and face a new magical threat.
Speaking about his return, Grint said Ron has been part of his life since he was 11. Now that both he and Ron have become fathers, putting on Ron's "costume" again feels both familiar and completely new, and he is very much looking forward to it.
Grint is not the first original Harry Potter film cast member to return to the stage. Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy, also reprised his role on Broadway this year, with his return driving a noticeable increase in ticket sales for the production.
