Global Unicorn Summit, hosted by the Hong Kong Ta Kung Wen Wei Media Group, continued today (Aug. 25) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Chan Ching-chuen, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, stated at the forum that Hong Kong, as an international hub for science, technology, and innovation as well as a global financial centre, brings together capital, talent, and industrial flows, making it a core bridge for Chinese tech enterprises to connect with international capital and develop global strategies. He put forward three key priorities for mainland enterprises seeking to list in Hong Kong. First, protect original innovation and build a solid moat around core technologies. Second, make good use of the institutional dividends offered by the Hong Kong stock market. Third, promote deep integration of industry, technology, and finance.
Chan said that science and technology are the primary productive forces, and while capital markets can empower corporate growth, they cannot replace core technologies. Enterprises must adhere to a long-term approach, deeply cultivate hard technology, and through basic research, frontier breakthroughs, mass production and commercialisation, and global iterative development, forge differentiated international competitive advantages — only then can they gain long‑term recognition from global capital.
Addressing the issue of companies going global, Chan offered two suggestions. First, gain an in‑depth understanding of local policies, regulations, and customs, and infuse "local flavour" into Chinese technology. Second, adhere to the principle of "being local, for the local" — engaging in comprehensive cooperation with local stakeholders and becoming an inseparable part of the local national economy — in order to achieve genuine success.
Chan added in conclusion that listing is a new starting point for a company's international development, not the end point. Enterprises should make good use of the dividends of Hong Kong's international capital market, pool global resources, serve the national strategy, lead industrial innovation with technology, and build a solid bridge with global influence.
