With the start of the new school year just around the corner on Sep. 1, the Transport Department has announced that it has reminded major public transport operators – including railways, franchised buses, ferries, and taxis – to provide sufficient services on the coming Tuesday (the first day of school) and to increase frequencies and deploy backup trains, vehicles, vessels, and staff as needed to cope with passenger demand. Motorists are advised to avoid driving to school districts whenever possible.

The Transport Department said it has liaised with the Education Bureau to ascertain the locations of new schools and cross‑district school travel patterns, and has reviewed nearby transport arrangements. Special routes serving school areas will be resumed. The department has also reminded local franchised bus and cross‑boundary coach operators providing services to land boundary control points to ensure adequate service for cross‑boundary students. Relevant authorities have been asked to review road works currently underway or scheduled on major roads, so as to minimise traffic disruption at the start of the new academic year.

The department's Emergency Transport Co‑ordination Centre will be elevated to the highest‑level Joint Supervision Mode on Tuesday morning, operating jointly with the police and major public transport operators to closely monitor traffic and public transport conditions in real time. Department staff will be deployed to major public transport interchanges, stations, and school districts across the territory – including Braemar Hill in North Point, Kowloon Tong, Po Kong Village Road in Wong Tai Sin, Kwai Shing Circuit in Kwai Chung, land boundary control points, and tunnels – to conduct on‑site monitoring and report the latest situation, and to step up services and implement traffic management measures as necessary.
