Cathay Pacific announced on Aug. 20 that it will launch direct passenger flights between Hong Kong and Almaty, Kazakhstan, with the inaugural service scheduled for Jan. 9 next year. Almaty will become the airline's first destination in Central Asia, and Cathay Pacific will be the only carrier offering direct passenger service between Hong Kong and Kazakhstan.
The new route will operate three pairs of flights per week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Bookings are now open. The outbound flight from Hong Kong departs at 16:25 Beijing time and arrives in Almaty at 20:30 local time, with a flight duration of 7 hours and 5 minutes. The return flight departs Almaty at 21:50 local time and arrives in Hong Kong at 07:00 Beijing time the following day, with a flight duration of 6 hours and 10 minutes.
Cathay Pacific said that as Kazakhstan's commercial and cultural hub, Almaty serves as a vital gateway to Central Asia, opening up new opportunities for trade, business and tourism development. The new Almaty route will further expand the Cathay Group's global network and underscore the airline's commitment to strengthening Hong Kong's position as an international aviation hub, while enhancing the city's connectivity with key markets along the Belt and Road.
