The latest data released by Colombia's National Unit for Disaster Risk Management on the evening of Aug. 18 (local time) showed that the powerful earthquake that struck the western part of the country has killed 312 people, injured 4,611, and left 290 missing, while 358 people have been rescued.

According to the figures, 470 municipalities across 15 departments have been affected by the quake, with some 294,000 people impacted.

The Colombian Geological Service reported that the 7.4‑magnitude earthquake occurred on August 10 local time, with its epicentre located about 20 kilometres from the municipality of San José del Palmar in Chocó Department, at a depth of 96 kilometres. In the aftermath of the disaster, the Colombian government activated international rescue cooperation mechanisms, and to date, 138 foreign rescue personnel have taken part in the relief operations.
