On Aug. 18, local time, the flame lighting ceremony for the 2026 Aichi–Nagoya Asian Games took place at Japan's National Stadium in Tokyo. Attendees included Aichi Prefecture Governor Hideaki Ōmura, who serves as chairman of the organizing committee, Japanese sprinter Yoshihide Kiryū, and Japan Olympic Committee President Seiko Hashimoto.
The flame-lighting event will be held across three locations: Tokyo, Hiroshima, and Nagoya. On Aug. 20, a flame will be lit at the Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima, followed by another lighting at Nagoya Castle on Aug. 22. The three flames will then be merged into a single torch, officially marking the start of the torch relay. Three-time Olympic women's wrestling champion Saori Yoshida will carry the torch as the first runner.
The Aichi–Nagoya Asian Games are scheduled to take place from Sep. 19 to Oct. 4.
