The Global Unicorn Summit—organized by the Hong Kong Ta Kung Wen Wei Media Group—will be held on August 24–25, 2026, at Hall 3G of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Under the theme "BORN TO LEAD, BUILT TO CREATE," the summit aims to bring together innovation forces from around the world and build a high-level, international platform that connects key elements of the innovation ecosystem, including enterprises, capital, technology, talent, policies, and professional services.

The summit is expected to further promote the establishment of global unicorns in Hong Kong, support companies seeking to list in Hong Kong, and help them expand internationally by leveraging Hong Kong's role as a gateway.

As a core driver of Hong Kong's local innovation and technology ecosystem, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) has become a focal point in recent years, with 14 unicorn companies now based in its parks. Among them is Insilico Medicine (stock code: 3696)—often described as the "first AI drug discovery company to go public"—which operates an R&D office at the Hong Kong Science Park. Its technology and development model have been cited as a reference case for discussions on the summit's "AI + biomedicine" theme.

Founded in 2001, HKSTP was established to build a thriving innovation and technology ecosystem.

Founded in 2001, HKSTP was established to build a thriving innovation and technology ecosystem. Today, it hosts 14 unicorns from 26 countries and regions, more than 17,000 professional research talents, and over 2,400 technology companies, focusing on areas such as health tech, artificial intelligence and robotics, fintech, and smart cities. Beyond R&D infrastructure, HKSTP provides startup support and investment networks, while actively promoting industry–academia–research collaboration.

Insilico Medicine, founded in 2014, operates across four continents and specializes in using generative AI to accelerate drug R&D. The company's end-to-end platform, Pharma.AI, shortens the traditional early-stage drug discovery cycle—from four to six years—to approximately 12 to 18 months. According to Ying Pan, the company's Hong Kong lead, AI can help reduce subjective bias in research, uncover hidden pharmacological mechanisms, and drive both efficiency gains and breakthrough innovation.

The company has published more than 300 peer-reviewed papers, secured over 700 patents, and was listed among the Nature Index 2024 Top 100 for corporate institutions leading in biological and natural sciences publications. In 2025, it was also selected for Nature Biotechnology's annual list of top research advances and featured on the journal's cover. In December last year, Insilico Medicine successfully listed on the Main Board of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX), raising HKD 2.277 billion, reportedly making it the largest biotech IPO fundraising in the Hong Kong market that year.

This year's Global Unicorn Summit will adopt a "five-in-one" format—forums, exhibitions, roadshows, matchmaking, and competitions—to enable deeper connections in Hong Kong among global innovators, international capital, and industrial resources. The summit will also offer free student tickets for university students to encourage youth participation in innovation exchanges.

HKSTP, as a key pillar of Hong Kong's innovation ecosystem, is expected to use the event to showcase Hong Kong's complete unicorn cultivation chain, spanning from fundamental research and industrial incubation to capital markets.
