The "19th Military Summer Camp for Hong Kong Youth and the 13th Hong Kong Tertiary Student Military Life Experience Camp" was held on Aug. 16.
Hong Kong lawmaker Kenneth Fok Kai-kong shared photos on social media of himself and his wife Guo Jingjing attending the closing ceremony of their 13-year-old eldest son's military summer camp.
"After completing the training, he seems to have become more mature and stronger. As parents, we are truly proud of him!" Ho wrote.
Ho said his son, Lawrence, had been deeply interested in military affairs since childhood. Whenever military camps in HK held open days or warships visited the city, he would take his son to visit whenever they had time.
According to Lawrence, life at the camp was highly regimented. He had to get up at 6 a.m. every day, with marching drills held before and after breakfast, followed by various military and extracurricular activities in the afternoon.
Leaving home and entering the camp for the first time was initially difficult, and he took some time to adjust. The extremely hot weather over the past two weeks, combined with the lack of air conditioning at the military camp, also presented a significant physical and mental challenge for a junior secondary school student.
However, Fok said young people often adapt more quickly than expected. Lawrence soon settled into camp life, and the two weeks passed in the blink of an eye.
Although the intensive training was hot and demanding, Fok said his son had strengthened his physique, become more disciplined and made many new friends who shared similar interests at the camp, gaining valuable memories from his youth along the way.
