Following in the footsteps of "The Rocket" Ronnie O'Sullivan, current world number one Judd Trump, and "The Melbourne machine," Neil Robertson, another snooker legend has become a Hong Kong resident. The Immigration Department announced on social media today (Aug. 12) that Jimmy White, the legendary snooker player known as the "The Whirlwind," has officially settled in Hong Kong through the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme. White said he looks forward to opening a snooker academy in Hong Kong to nurture local talent.
Born in London in 1962, White has won six World Snooker Championship runner-up titles and 10 ranking event titles. Last year, he took part in the inaugural World Grand Prix in Hong Kong, where he faced off against local hero Marco Fu at the Kai Tak Sports Park's Kai Tak Arena.
White has a long-standing connection with Hong Kong. When asked who he most wanted to see after becoming a Hong Konger, White revealed he would try to find an "old friend" — the "Legend of the Dragon." In 1991, White appeared in the film "Legend of the Dragon," where he played himself in a snooker match alongside Stephen Chow.
