The 2026 Hong Kong Animation-Comic-Game Convention (ACGHK) is underway at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from July 24 to 28, drawing dense crowds and a festival-like buzz to one of the city’s biggest pop-culture fixtures of the year.
On the show floor, we spoke with attendees ranging from students to working adults. Some are lifelong fans who grew up with anime and games; others say study and work have left them less time to keep up — but not less passion.
Views on collecting merchandise were similarly varied: a number never really got into it, while others spoke candidly about letting go of childhood collections — and the lingering regret.
When asked to name must-play or must-watch classics, many pointed to titles that shaped their formative years, recalling them with unmistakable affection. Their answers trace not only personal fandoms, but also the depth of anime and gaming culture in Hong Kong. Here’s what they had to say.
