On July 24, at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner held in Washington, US President Donald Trump joked that he would run for a fourth presidential term. Trump is currently serving his second term as president, and he has still refused to concede his defeat to Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election.

"I am pleased to announce my intention—this is big news—I will run for a fourth term as President of the United States," Trump said. He then put on a baseball cap printed with "Trump 2028" and added, "I've won three times already, and now I'm going for one more."

The next US presidential election is scheduled to take place in 2028. Trump has never ruled out seeking a third term before and claimed there were "ways" to secure another re-election. However, the Twenty-second Amendment to the US Constitution clearly stipulates that no person shall serve as President for more than two four-year terms.
