A 26-year-old British woman, while travelling in Thailand in Dec. 2023, met a British male banker. In early the following year, when she visited the man in Hong Kong, she claimed that he had raped her and demanded £100,000 (approximately HK$1.04 million) from him, threatening to report the matter to the police if he did not pay. Following trial, the woman was found guilty of extortion and intent to pervert the course of justice, and was sentenced at the District Court the day before yesterday (July 22). Judge Adriana Tse Ching condemned the defendant's conduct as evil and cruel, noting that she had shown no remorse, and handed down a six-year prison sentence.

The 26-year-old British defendant, Rose Isabel Anonia Barbra Eudora, was accused of using intimidation on Feb. 2 of the previous year to demand £100,000 from X, and on Feb. 3 of attempting to pervert the course of justice by falsely reporting to the police that X had raped her.

In her sentencing remarks, the judge criticised the defendant for demanding a large sum of money from X, with the amount gradually increasing from £5,000 to £100,000. After failing to obtain the money, the defendant reported the matter to the police, leading to X's arrest. She also deleted some messages exchanged with X in an attempt to conceal the truth—an act the judge described as a fabrication orchestrated by the defendant herself.

The judge further noted that X had been very kind to the defendant, even offering to cover her travel and accommodation expenses when she came to Hong Kong. However, the defendant exploited X's kindness, naivety, friendship, and interest in her to carry out the extortion and false rape accusation. The judge rebuked the defendant for abusing her relationship with X and framing an innocent person, calling her actions evil and cruel. With no remorse shown, the defendant was sentenced to six years' imprisonment.
