According to UK media, on July 20 local time, just hours after formally handing over power, former Prime Minister Keir Starmer was photographed enjoying drinks with former Chancellor Rachel Reeves and others at a pub in north London.
Reports suggest that whether drowning sorrows or celebrating regained freedom, they appeared to be in good spirits. In photos captured by British media, Starmer is seen wearing trainers, holding a pint of beer while on the phone. Reeves appeared relaxed and cheerful, laughing and chatting with others. She later posted on social media, thanking colleagues for their support during her tenure and wishing her successor and new Prime Minister Andy Burnham good luck.
Starmer visited Buckingham Palace on July 20 to submit his resignation to King Charles III, which was accepted. Earlier that day, he delivered a farewell speech outside 10 Downing Street. In his address, Starmer warned that the UK faces threats from external forces seeking to create division, and urged the public to avoid social fracture. He said he would pass the baton to Andy Burnham, who would have his full support.
