Lingnan University has journeyed through over a century of remarkable history. From the turmoil of war to its re-establishment in Hong Kong in 1967, every step embodies a spirit of resilience and an inspiring, poignant legacy.
Today, Lingnan University stands at the forefront of the digital era, redefining liberal arts education with a brand-new vision: humanistic literacy, scientific literacy, and AI literacy—all three are indispensable. Lingnan has risen to 63rd place globally in the THE Sustainability Impact Ratings and has once again been ranked first in the world for "Quality Education." On the occasion of this achievement, we interviewed Professor S. Joe Qin, President of Lingnan University.
Lingnan University is located in Tuen Mun, a transportation hub in western Hong Kong. It is just 15 minutes from the Shenzhen Bay Port and 20 minutes from the airport, and occupies a strategic position as the western gateway of the Northern Metropolis. From this vantage point, Lingnan not only connects closely with the Greater Bay Area but also integrates deeply into the broader national development landscape.
Lingnan has deeply embedded cutting-edge technologies such as generative AI across various disciplines, promoting the integration of arts and sciences, and advancing its transformation into a research-intensive liberal arts university. President S. Joe Qin pointed out that a traditional humanities education is no longer sufficient to meet unknown challenges; students must possess the ability to explore the unknown and embrace lifelong learning.
Lingnan's transformation has already begun to yield results. Moving forward, the University will continue to uphold its commitment to liberal arts education, cultivating the next generation for Hong Kong and the nation—individuals capable of rising to the challenges of the digital age—and making new contributions.
