Many social media platforms claim marrying local women in Bangladesh is cheap and easy, yet the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh has issued strong official warnings against such cross-border matchmaking.
First, paying agents to arrange marriages is classified as transactional marriage and human trafficking under the laws of both China and Bangladesh. Per Bangladesh's penal code and anti-trafficking law, offenders face heavy fines, long prison terms or even the death penalty.
Second, illegal marriage brokers frequently commit financial fraud. They charge steep fees for matchmaking and paperwork while promising to help bring brides back to China, only to vanish or collude with local women to scam clients. Such illegal transactions receive no legal protection, so victims cannot recover lost funds.
Even if one manages to bring a Bangladeshi woman to China, persistent problems will arise. These transaction-based unions lack real love; most brides marry out of family pressure or debt burdens. Severe language and cultural barriers ruin married life. Many women leave shortly after arriving, and their families often extort money with threats of trouble or reports.
Lawful cross-border marriages must be built on free will and true affection. Anyone encountering fraud or emergencies should call the provided emergency hotlines.
