Recently, a Hong Kong woman who moved to the UK took to social media to vent her frustrations, lamenting the harsh economic environment in the UK and the difficulty of finding a job. She said she had sent out countless job applications, all to no avail, sparking discussions.

The woman posted in a Facebook group, her words filled with helplessness and despair: "Don't you think it's really hard to find a job right now? I've applied for everything, but there's been no response, not even from agency jobs!"

Her post drew responses from many other Hong Kong migrants facing the same predicament, who joined in complaining.

"Exactly, it's the Labour Party's fault—they've reduced all the job openings." "I feel the same way. In previous years, from June onwards, you'd start seeing more jobs, but this year the number is pitifully low. People always say that jobs pick up in June and July, but actually May had more, and by June there were even fewer." "Yeah, it's really hard to find work now." "National debt is severe, the economy is bad, the government has no money, and they keep introducing new taxes. Many businesses are cutting costs and not hiring as many people." "The number of jobs has dropped significantly because hiring costs have gone up, so they're employing fewer people."

"From what I've seen, the competition is just too fierce. I've been here for a year and a half and have worked for two companies. When we posted a part-time position on Indeed, we got 400 to 600 applications in just one day, only picked a few for interviews, and finally hired one person. So you really have to think about how to stand out." "I talked to an agent three days ago, and she said that for the first half of the year, very few companies were hiring for permanent positions—many postings weren't even real. Right now, she mostly has contract roles because many companies don't want to increase headcount..."

Amid the chorus of complaints, some netizens sarcastically remarked that if one is willing to lower their expectations, there are still options.

"If you're set on office jobs, then of course it's harder. But if you don't mind working in a warehouse to tide things over, it's not that difficult—there are still plenty of warehouses and factories constantly recruiting. It's tough work, and you have to stand all day, but at least it's a job."

Others cut straight to the point, urging those who are unemployed yet still complaining to face reality, "Try not being so picky about jobs before you complain!"
