The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has introduced a performance-based bonus scheme that could see each Spain player receive up to €750,000 (HK$6.375 million) before tax if the team wins the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

RFEF President Rafael Louzan reached an agreement with the national team captain in March this year to establish a structured World Cup bonus distribution mechanism. Under the agreement, players will receive 45%of the prize money paid by FIFA to the federation if Spain wins the tournament, while 40%will be distributed to players if the team finishes as runners-up.

Based on the agreed formula, FIFA would pay the RFEF approximately €44 million (HK$374 million) if Spain wins the 2026 World Cup, allowing each player to receive an average pre-tax bonus of about €750,000 (HK$6.375 million).

If Spain finishes second, the federation would receive approximately €29 million (HK$246.5 million) from FIFA, with each player earning a pre-tax bonus of around €440,000 (HK$3.74 million). According to reports, the runners-up bonuses have already been paid to the squad.

Notably, compared with the €600,000 (HK$5.1 million) awarded to each player following Spain's 2010 FIFA World Cup triumph in South Africa, the runners-up bonus for the 2026 tournament has increased by about 25% over the past 16 years, reflecting the growing emphasis placed on rewarding elite footballers.

The agreement not only demonstrates the RFEF's confidence in the national team's prospects but also serves as a practical incentive aimed at motivating players to give their best in pursuit of World Cup glory. Spain continues its preparations for the 2026 tournament, with the newly agreed bonus scheme expected to provide further motivation for the squad.
