A newly opened flyover on Tsuen Wan Road (Kowloon-bound) has seen traffic accidents reported on three consecutive days since it began operation on 12 July, prompting the government to add more road markings and temporary signage while continuing to monitor traffic conditions.

In a reply to media inquiries, a government spokesperson said that before the flyover opened, the Highways Department had commissioned an independent road safety audit, which concluded that existing directional signage was sufficiently clear. After the opening, however, the Highways Department and the Transport Department reviewed the situation and arranged for additional road markings and extra temporary traffic signs at appropriate locations to better remind drivers of the new traffic arrangement, noting that some motorists may not yet have fully adapted.

At around 8 a.m. on 14 July, another crash occurred on the Kowloon-bound section, contributing to congestion. The report also cited photos showing that the road surface in the area already carried markings indicating the lane was for destinations such as Kwun Tong, Lai Chi Kok, and Mong Kok.

Incidents cited over three days

14 July (around 8 a.m.): Three accidents occurred within about 30 minutes on the relevant stretch, involving at least seven vehicles, with one person reporting a minor injury.

13 July (around 9 a.m.): A three-car pile-up was reported in the fast lane on the Kowloon-bound side; one person was slightly injured.

12 July (12:10 p.m.): A four-vehicle collision (three private cars and a taxi) was reported near Wing Tak Lee Plaza; a male passenger in a private car complained of chest discomfort and was taken to Princess Margaret Hospital.

The new single-lane flyover links the Kowloon-bound fast lane of Tsuen Wan Road to Kwai Chung Road. Authorities have said the change is intended to ease congestion around the Kwai Tsing Interchange by improving lane distribution from a "four-in, three-out" arrangement to "four-in, four-out," increasing road capacity.

Officials also reminded drivers to choose lanes early: the far-right lane leading to the new flyover heads only toward Kwun Tong, Lai Chi Kok and Mong Kok, and does not allow access via the 9D exit to Route 3. Motorists heading to destinations via Route 3—including Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong West and Lantau—were advised to use the original Tsuen Wan Road flyover and keep left.
