A bear was reported near a residential home in Kamisunagawa Town, Hokkaido, on 11 July, prompting a police response. No injuries were reported after the homeowner used fireworks to drive the animal away, according to Japanese media reports.
Sapporo Television (STV) reported that at around 6:00 p.m. on 11 July, police received a call from a man stating that a bear had appeared on the premises of a residence near Chuo-Minami 3-jo, 5-chome, in Kamisunagawa Town.
Police said the caller remained inside the home and observed the bear—estimated to be about 1.5 meters long—approximately 20 meters outside a window. The homeowner then set off fireworks, and the bear moved through a field within the residential area and left toward the southeast.
The extent of any damage remains unknown. The location was described as being on the edge of a residential district, and police were reported to be maintaining vigilance in the surrounding area.
