A photo circulating on social media has sparked discussion after showing a middle-aged man on an MTR Island Line train standing near the door while holding a hand trolley carrying a large wooden crate. The post, shared in the Facebook group "西環變幻時," suggested the scene appeared to be at Sai Ying Pun Station, based on the platform wall color visible through the window.
The uploader criticized the situation as obstructive during peak crowding, joking that "soon even a mobile fishball cart could ride the MTR," and said the trolley could become a nuisance at busier stations like Central and Admiralty.
The image prompted a range of comments from other users, with some urging the person to call a vehicle rather than use the railway, and others raising concerns that trolley wheels could injure passengers' feet.
Under the Hong Kong Railway By-laws governing the carriage of baggage, passengers on urban lines may carry one item of luggage unless they have written permission from the MTR Corporation. The maximum size permitted is 170 cm (the sum of length, width, and height), with no side exceeding 130 cm.
Passengers holding a valid MTR permit—such as a permit for carrying larger musical instruments or larger musical instruments and sports equipment—may carry one item up to 235 cm in total dimensions, with no side exceeding 145 cm, subject to the permit's terms and conditions.
