A striking street scene in New York City has gone viral after a man was tightly wrapped in layers of transparent plastic film and secured to a lamppost, then drenched with several liters of milk, despite temperatures nearing 38°C.
The incident took place near the intersection of Spring Street and Mott Street in Nolita, where fetish and BDSM performer Sabine Tautou used the street as a filming location for a "mummification" segment. The male participant, who reportedly traveled from Maryland, was described as taking part voluntarily and was paid US$10,000 (about HK$78,000) for the day.
Witnesses said the man was left wearing only underwear and socks as he was wrapped from head to toe and fixed against the lamppost, with only a small opening left for breathing. Tautou, wearing a bikini-style top and short shorts, stepped onto a stool and poured 7.57 liters of fresh milk over his head in what was described as a roughly 15-minute "milk bath" performance under the summer sun.
In BDSM culture, "mummification" refers to binding a person tightly with tape or plastic wrap to restrict movement and some sensory input, which some participants describe as creating intense focus or a sense of submission. Tautou was quoted as framing the act as a form of public performance art, saying she was drawn to its sculptural quality and the sensation of turning a human body into an "object" through constraint. She also joked that milk was chosen because people need daily calcium.
Online reaction has been sharply divided, with some viewers calling the act unbelievable given the heat, while others treated it as humorous or artistic. A smaller group asked how to take part in similar performances. Another detail that drew attention was the participant's socks, which some commenters called the most confusing part of the video.
Tautou said the area was thoroughly cleaned after the shoot and indicated that she plans to stage more public "mummification" bondage events in New York City.
