On July 2 Hong Kong time, in the Round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup, the US took the lead in the final moments of first-half stoppage time. In the second half, Folarin Balogun, who had given the US the lead, was sent off with a red card. Malik Tillman then scored directly from a free-kick to seal a 2-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina, sending the US through to the Round of 16.

In the 45th minute, a defensive error from Bosnia and Herzegovina allowed Balogun to collect the ball inside the box and slot home with his left foot, putting the US 1-0 ahead.

In the 64th minute, Balogun, who had scored the first-half goal, was shown a straight red card for a foul on a Bosnian defender.

In the 82nd minute, Tillman scored with a brilliant free-kick, making it 2-0 for the US.

In the end, the US secured a 2-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina to advance to the Round of 16.
