According to reports from Xinhua News Agency and Reuters, since the earthquake in Venezuela, the death toll has continued to rise. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated at a regular press conference on June 29 that China is deeply concerned about the earthquake situation in Venezuela. President Xi Jinping has sent a message of condolence to Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodríguez. The Chinese government has decided to provide Venezuela with an additional RMB 100 million in emergency relief supplies, on top of previous cash assistance, for earthquake relief and post-disaster reconstruction, which will be delivered to Venezuela as soon as possible.
Guo Jiakun said that China has also provided Venezuela with satellite images of the earthquake-stricken area to support its earthquake relief efforts. Chinese-funded enterprises and overseas Chinese communities in Venezuela have spontaneously provided urgently needed engineering machinery and medical supplies for rescue work and have formed rescue teams to actively participate in search and rescue operations. China is willing to continue to provide more support to Venezuela based on the development of the disaster situation.
The Venezuelan Seismological Research Foundation reported on June 29 that a 4.2-magnitude aftershock occurred in northern Venezuela at approximately 7:00 am local time (7:00 pm Hong Kong time), and the tremor was felt strongly in the capital, Caracas.
Rodríguez said on June 28 that the death toll from the Venezuelan earthquake had risen to 1,450, with 774 buildings collapsed or damaged.
