According to a report by The Daily Beast, U.S. President Donald Trump's granddaughter, Kai Trump, recently posted a video on social media showing the private residential quarters of the White House, the Oval Office, and other areas. In the video, she referred to the White House as "my home" and sat in the president's desk chair, drawing backlash from American netizens. Many commenters questioned whether she was leveraging her status as a presidential family member to enjoy privileges, stressing that the White House is not the Trump family's private property.

Trump held an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event on the South Lawn of the White House on June 14 to celebrate his 80th birthday and the 250th anniversary of American independence. Kai visited the White House during that event. In a video uploaded to YouTube, she gave her accompanying friends a tour of the White House, telling the camera, "Everyone, welcome to my home." She showed the White House's grand foyer, the Oval Office, as well as rooms in the private residence including a bowling alley and a dressing room. In the Oval Office, Kai remarked that Trump loves gold, so gold designs and décor can be seen everywhere. She also sat in the president's chair and talked about Trump's quirks, such as his fondness for Diet Coke. "He has a Diet Coke button here."

The 19‑year‑old Kai has more than 1.5 million followers on YouTube. The video sparked considerable controversy after it was posted, with many U.S. netizens criticizing Kai for treating the White House like a private residence in a casual manner that they found unacceptable. One commenter said that if past deceased U.S. presidents could see Kai's behavior, they would "roll over in their graves." Others pointed out that Kai holds no official government position, yet she enjoys such high visibility and unrestricted access to the White House, which they saw as an exploitation of her status as a presidential relative to gain special privileges.
