Weather conditions in Hong Kong turned increasingly unstable on Thursday (June 25), with a Thunderstorm Warning, Very Hot Weather Warning and Heat Stress at Work Warning all remaining in force.
The Hong Kong Observatory said showers and thunderstorms associated with a trough of low pressure were affecting Guangdong Province. Rain showers around midday brought more than 10 millimetres of rainfall to some parts of HK.
According to the Observatory, weather conditions are expected to deteriorate from Friday through the weekend, with showers and squally thunderstorms forecast across the territory. Rainfall may be heavier in some areas.
Under the latest nine-day weather forecast, rain is expected every day over the coming nine days. Squally thunderstorms may affect HK on Friday and Saturday.
The Observatory said the weather will become progressively more unsettled from Friday, with showers and squally thunderstorms continuing into the weekend. While a few showers are still expected in the following one to two days, there will also be sunny intervals.
On July 1, daytime conditions are forecast to be very hot, with temperatures ranging between 28°C and 33°C. The Observatory expects periods of sunshine and a few rain showers, while the probability of significant rainfall is forecast to be low.
