FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed on June 23, local time, that US President Donald Trump will attend the FIFA World Cup final in New Jersey on July 19 and take part in the trophy presentation ceremony for the winning team.
"We will be together with the president enjoying the final and handing the trophy to the winner, of course," Infantino said.
Asked if they would make the presentation together, he added: "Of course, we are together all the time."
According to AFP, Infantino has developed a close relationship with Trump.
US news channel MS Now noted that under the World Cup's traditional trophy presentation protocol, the FIFA president usually presents the trophy in the presence of the host nation's head of state. It is relatively uncommon for a head of state to personally hand over the trophy to the winning team.
The report also recalled that Trump broke with convention during the Club World Cup final last July.
After presenting the trophy to Chelsea, the winners of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, Trump did not leave the stage as guest presenters typically do. Instead, he remained on stage celebrating alongside the players, a moment that reportedly left some Chelsea players standing nearby looking confused.
