An explosion at a liquefied natural gas processing facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City, northern Qatar, has killed at least 13 people and injured 66 others.
The incident occurred on the evening of June 21 local time, as workers were attempting to restart operations at the gas plant, during which an explosion took place. Authorities are investigating the specific cause of the accident and have ruled out external attack or sabotage, believing the incident to be an accident caused by a technical malfunction.
Ras Laffan Industrial City is Qatar's primary liquefied natural gas export terminal. It had previously been attacked by Iran amid the U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict and was forced to close for several weeks.
