The Sancai Black Glazed Horse is a glazed pottery artwork of the Tang Dynasty.
Standing 73 centimeters tall and 84 centimeters long, the Black Glazed Tri-Color Horse is a rare masterpiece of Tang glazed pottery craftsmanship, and is now preserved in the Luoyang Museum.
Unearthed in 1981 from the joint tomb of An Pu and his wife on East Longmen Mountain, Luoyang, the horse is fully covered with black glaze, decorated with white glaze highlights. It presents a distinctive artistic effect known as "snow-white hooves". Sculpted robust and powerful, the horse tilts its head slightly as if neighing.
As an extremely rare black-glazed piece among Tang Sancai (tri-colored) wares, it required double glazing during firing, and its color effect was unpredictable.
