The decisive moment came in the 50th minute when South Korea's goalkeeper failed to hold onto the ball. Mexico's Romo reacted quickly and converted the rebound, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead.
Mexico held on to secure the victory, becoming the first team to advance to the Round of 32. The win also guaranteed Mexico first place in Group A.
