Xia Baolong, Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, is visiting Hong Kong today and tomorrow (June 16 to 17) to conduct an inspection and research on Hong Kong's alignment with the nation's 15th Five-Year Plan and the promotion of the Northern Metropolis development. Xia Baolong visited the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park this afternoon, accompanied by Financial Secretary Paul Chan, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Sun Dong, and Permanent Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park Company Limited, Kevin Choi.
Sun Dong described Director Xia Baolong's visit today as a "shot in the arm" for promoting the Northern Metropolis and advancing international innovation and technology. In the future, the SAR government will take a more proactive approach in aligning with the nation's development strategies, and with a sense of urgency, strive to achieve a "new acceleration" for Hong Kong. The government will unite efforts from industry, academia, and research sectors to fully promote the development of the three major innovation and technology parks in the Northern Metropolis, integrate into and serve the nation's modern industrial system, and contribute Hong Kong's strength to the nation's drive for high-level scientific and technological self-reliance.
