A wave of account suspensions across Meta-owned social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and Threads, has recently emerged in Taiwan, attracting widespread attention, according to local media reports.

Taiwan internet influencer Chen Chih-han said on June 15 that his Facebook, Instagram and Threads accounts had all been permanently suspended.

In addition, the account of Ko Wen-je, founding chairman of the Taiwan People's Party, was also restricted, while the party caucus's official account was reportedly deleted.

Meta recently responded that a technical error had caused a small number of accounts to be mistakenly identified as users under the age of 13.

The company said it is actively addressing the issue and working to restore affected accounts as soon as possible.

Some users in Taiwan have argued that the platforms' content moderation and account review mechanisms lack transparency and that the reasons behind account actions are not clearly explained.
