Xia Baolong, Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the State Council's Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, conducted an inspection and research visit in Hong Kong on June 16.
During the morning, Xia visited multiple sites in Hong Kong's Northern Metropolis to learn about the overall development plan and progress of key projects. His stops included the Hung Shui Kiu/Ha Tsuen New Development Area Community Liaison Center, land earmarked for the Hung Shui Kiu University Town, and the Yuen Long Microelectronics Industrial Park. He also visited a Light Public Housing ("simple housing") project in Yuen Long, where he spoke with residents.
In the afternoon, Xia went to the Kwu Tung North New Development Area to review planning and construction related to public housing, transport, municipal works, and other supporting facilities. He then visited the Hong Kong Park of the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Co-operation Zone to learn about its planning and development, the companies moving in, talent initiatives, and projects, including the Sandy Ridge Data Facility Cluster. Xia also inspected the emergency hospital built with central government support in Hong Kong.
In the evening, Xia visited AsiaWorld-Expo to learn about Hong Kong's development of the "mega-event economy" and how the city aims to turn major events into new economic momentum—so as to seize opportunities linked to the country's 15th Five-Year Plan. After the visit, he returned to Shenzhen.
According to the report, Xia arrived in Hong Kong on June 16 for the inspection focused on Hong Kong's alignment with the national 15th Five-Year Plan and on advancing development in the Northern Metropolis. He was accompanied by Chief Executive John Lee, Zhou Ji (Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR), and a number of principal officials of the HKSAR government.
The report added that officials who joined the visit briefed Xia on their work and said his trip reflected the central government's strong attention and support for Hong Kong's development.
