When a person leaves their homeland, their status inevitably diminishes; not being able to continue in their original profession and not earning as much as before seems normal.

However, many people lack psychological preparation before emigrating. A Hong Kong man who recently moved to the UK complained on social media that he couldn't make a living and is now considering returning to Hong Kong.

The male migrant, around 40 years old, posted on the Facebook group "UK Hongkongers Work Support Group," saying that he has been in the UK for nearly four years, working in blue-collar jobs, and only through employment agencies. His career has been unsuccessful, and his family life is also discordant.

"After nearly four years in the UK, I can't make a living, I'm just stuck doing warehouse and factory agency work, which has made me very depressed… There's constant internal friction at home."

The man is considering returning to Hong Kong but is worried about finding a job, so he asked, "I'm planning to return to Hong Kong. Does anyone know what the job market is like there now? Is it easy for a middle-aged guy in his 40s to find work back there?"

Many people commented, advising the man to think twice. "The situation in Hong Kong is also tough; think carefully before you decide." "Relax! Try lowering your expectations; working as a blue-collar worker in the UK is fine too!" "If you're doing manual labor, stay in the UK. High-paying jobs in Hong Kong aren't for you." "Why not try switching jobs? There are actually many decent jobs out there."

Still, some netizens noted that Hong Kong's employment environment is better.

"Hong Kong is still better than the UK." "You can definitely make over HK$1,000 a day driving a taxi in Hong Kong, but if you're one of 'us,' don't take away others' positions."
