The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) issued a special weather tip on Saturday afternoon (June 6), warning that unstable weather conditions are expected to affect the city over the next two to three days under the influence of a broad low-pressure trough.
Intermittent showers and squally thunderstorms are forecast, with periods of heavy rain expected on Monday and Tuesday (June 8 and 9).
According to the Observatory, the broad low-pressure trough will linger along the coast of southern China over the coming two to three days, bringing heavy showers and squally thunderstorms to the region.
The HKO said that as the trough gradually moves away from the coastal areas, the number of showers across Guangdong is expected to decrease gradually during the middle part of next week.
An easterly airstream is forecast to affect the coast of Guangdong during the latter part of next week, bringing a few showers to the area.
Separately, the Observatory noted that a tropical cyclone currently located over the East China Sea is expected to move across waters south of Japan within the next one to two days.
